John Voelker, PhD - The Reverie of the Vietnam War Era: Two Reluctant American Writers

Tim O’Brien’s elegiac Vietnam war memoir stands as a later mature work of the author, a metafiction collection of linked short stories in a style of writing that combines both fiction and nonfiction together into one piece. The Things They Carried has received critical acclaim and has been established as one of the preeminent pieces of Vietnam War literature, becoming a commonly assigned reading staple for youth in American schools.

John Voelker, PhD, teaches historical, cultural and literary studies in the Department of American Literatures and Cultures in the English Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Pécs.
