John Voelker, PhD - The Reverie of the Vietnam War Era: Two Reluctant American Writers
Pirsig’s landmark 1974 fictionalized autobiographical novel went through 121 rejections by publishers before trial short-run acceptance, followed by exponential sales and becoming the best-selling philosophy book of all time. Through the medium of recounting a cross country motorcycle trip, the author gives a public lecture of philosophical discussions on epistemology, the history of philosophy and the philosophy of science, with the work continuing in relentless popularity in the Postmodern American search for meaning.
John Voelker, PhD, teaches historical, cultural and literary studies in the Department of American Literatures and Cultures in the English Institute of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Pécs.
