Sara Riccetti

The presentation will explore the revitalization of Indigenous legal traditions in Canada, highlighting legal pluralism's importance and the objectives behind this revitalization. We will discuss various understandings of law and their implications. We will explore what is Indigenous law and methods for engaging with Indigenous legal traditions. Additionally, we will compare Indigenous legal systems between Canada and the U.S., outlining their similarities, differences, and research and application challenges.

Sara Riccetti is a Ph.D. candidate in Studies in English Literatures, Language and Translation in a joint degree program between the University of “La Sapienza” in Rome, Italy, and the University of Silesia in Katowice, Poland. Her Ph.D. project focuses on the intersection between law and literature in Indigenous drama by contemporary women playwrights from the U.S. and Canada. In 2023, she has been awarded the International Council for Canadian Studies Graduate Student Scholarship, which allowed her to carry out research at the University of Victoria, B.C. Her research interests include North American Literature and Theatre, Indigenous North American Drama, Law and Literature, Indigenous Feminist Theory, and Decolonial studies.
