Magdalena Fiřtová, Ph.D.
Are we living in a unique moment, reversing the global trade order and multiple commitments of the past? Have President Trump’s trade policies destroyed multinational cooperation and ended the post World War II movements of free trade and multilateral cooperation?
Magdalena Fiřtová, Ph.D., is an assistant professor and researcher at the Institute of International Studies Charles University, Prague. Magdalena holds degrees from the University of Economics, Prague (M.A.) and Charles University (Ph.D.). Devoted primarily to Canadian and American studies, her work focuses on the political economy of North America.
She published A Concise history of Canada (Libri; 2014), and coedited (with Jan Hornát) a book Barack Obama: Fulfilled visions? (Karolinum; 2014). Most recently she contributed to the publication America First ed. by Hornát and Kýrová (Karolinum, 2020) with a chapter on President Trump’s Trade Policies in Historical Perspective. Magdalena received the Golden Course Annual Awards for excellence in teaching for her courses of Political Economy of North America (2010, 2014), Society and Economy (2017, 2020) and History of Canada (2012)
