Tomasz Soroka, Ph.D.

Tomasz Soroka, Ph.D.

Dr. Soroka holds a Ph.D. in political science (Jagiellonian University, 2010); an M.A. in cultural studies with a minor in American Studies (Jagiellonian University, 2003); and a B.A. in English philology (University of Opole, Teachers’ Training College, Opole, 2001). He was a visiting scholar at McGill Institute for the Study of Canada (McGill University, Montreal, 2013) and at the Institute of Canadian Studies (University of Ottawa, 2005 and 2011). He is also the recipient of scholarships and grants from the International Council for Canadian Studies (research grant, Library and Archives Canada and the University of Ottawa, 2005), the Central European Association for Canadian Studies (Masaryk University, Brno, 2004), the JU Faculty of International and Political Studies’ grants for young scholars (conference grants for travel to Istanbul, New Orleans, and Zagreb as well as a book project), and the National Science Center (research at University of Toronto, University of Ottawa, Carleton University). Thanks to the Erasmus+ and CEEPUS mobility programmes, he has lectured in the universities of Catania, Veliko Tarnovo, Zadar, Maribor, and Coimbra. In 2004-2010 and 2013-2016, he served on the executive board of the Polish Association for Canadian Studies as Secretary General. In 2019-2020, he was head of the M.A. in TransAtlantic Studies program. Since 2020, he has been Dean's Representative for General Affairs (Vice-Director) at the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora.
