Prof. Magdalena Paluszkiewicz-Misiaczek

Prof. Magdalena Paluszkiewicz-Misiaczek

 

Prof. Paluszkiewicz-Misiaczek is a graduate of the English Language Department at the Jagiellonian University with a major in translation and teaching English as a foreign language. She studied at the Chair of American Studies at the Jagiellonian University’s postgraduate studies program. Prof. Paluszkiewicz-Misiazek’s Ph.D. dissertation, entitled: Social Advancement and the Change of the Victorian Ideal of the Woman in Canada at the Turn of Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries, was defended in 2004. In 1996-2004, she was a teacher of English at the Department of Foreign Languages Teaching at the Jagiellonian University. Currently, Prof. Paluszkiwicz-Misiaczek is an assistant professor at the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora at the Jagiellonian University, where she teaches the following classes in Polish and English: The History of the United States; An Introduction to Canada; The History of Canada; The B.A. Seminar; and Monographic Lectures on the History of Women in the United States and Canada. She received the Dean's Award for didactic achievements in the 2008-2009 academic year and works as a certified translator at the District Court in Krakow.

Functions:

  • Cooperation with the Canadian embassy
  • Coordination of the implementation of students' classes at the Pedagogical College
  • Elected member of the Council at the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora

Academic interests:

  • The veterans of peacekeeping missions
  • The history of women in the United States and Canada with a particular emphasis on women's organizations as well as social and charitable work
  • The history and problems of indigenous peoples in Canada and the United States
