Magdalena Paluszkiewicz-Misiaczek, dr hab.

 

Graduate of English Language Department, Jagiellonian University, major in translation and teaching English as a foreign language.  Chair of American Studies at Jagiellonian University – postgraduate studies.  Ph.D. dissertation (2004) entitled: Social Advancement  and Change of Victorian Ideal of Woman in Canada at the Turn of 19th and 20th Centuries. In the years 1996-2004, a teacher of English at the Department of Foreign Languages Teaching at Jagiellonian University.  Currently, assistant professor at the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora at the Jagiellonian University, classes in Polish and English: history of the USA, introduction to Canada, history of Canada , B.A. seminar, monographic lectures on history of women in the United States and Canada. Dean's Award for didactic achievements in academic year 2008/2009. Working also as certified translator at District Court in Cracow.

Functions at IAiSP:

  • Elected member of the Council at the Institute of American Studies and Polish Diaspora

Academic interests:

  • Veterans of peacekeeping missions
  • History of women  in the USA and Canada with particular emphasis on women's organizations as well as social and charitable work
  • History and problems of Aboriginal Peoples in Canada and the United States

Current research projects & grants:

  • Preparation of a monograph:  Two Countries, Two Systems, One Mission - Policy of Poland and Canada Towards its Afghan Mission Veterans.
