Latin American Seminar

The event will be held in the form of a discussion over the figure of the incumbent head of the Brazilian state, Jair Bolsonaro, his career, and political views. Its participants will try to answer the question of how Brazil has changed over the first 12 months of the controversial politician's rule.
 
Speakers:
  • Janina Petelczyc – PhD in Social Sciences, expert on social security and international comparative social policy, including the Brazilian social policy and retirement system. She works in the Department of Social Insurance at the Warsaw School of Economics. Associated with the Terra Brasilis Foundation.
  • Agata Błoch – PhD candidate at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences, where she is preparing her PhD thesis on Brazilian colonial history (cotutelle with Nova University in Lisbon).  Co-founder of the Terra Brasilis Foundation.
  • Marco Vallada Lemonte – Master of History at the University of São Paulo, PhD candidate at the Universidade de Coimbra/Centro de Estudos Sociais. He worked as a journalist for Folha de S. Paulo and taught social communication at the University of Guarulhos in São Paulo. His research interests focus on history and political science, and the study of nationalism and extreme right-wing populism in particular.
