Film Thriller Then And Now: What Are We Afraid Of?

Date: 28.04.2021
Start Time: 18.00-19.15
Place: MS Teams
Organiser: Transatlantic Studies

dr Michał Oleszczyk

Film thriller used to be one of the most popular film genres. Originated in 19th century fiction and brought to its perfect form by Alfred Histchcock, thriller became the main popular culture safety valve for WW2 and Cold War tensions. With the last peak of the thriller in 1990s, it seems the genre is troubled in the post-9/11.

In this lecture, Michał Oleszczyk (University of Warsaw; SpoilerMaster Podcast) will give the outline of the history of the thriller and ask the question about the relevance of the genre for the world of today.
