Prof. Magdalena Fiřtová
Prof. Magdalena Fiřtová is an Assistant Professor and Researcher at the Institute of International Studies Charles University, Prague. She holds degrees from the University of Economics, Prague (M.A.) and Charles University (Ph.D.). Devoted primarily to Canadian studies, her work focuses on the political economy of North America, particularly from the discourse framing perspective. She published in Czech: A Concise History of Canada (Libri; 2014), coedited (with Jan Hornát) a book Barack Obama: Fulfilled Visions? (Karolinum; 2014) and contributed with a chapter to America First ed. by Hornát and Kýrová (Karolinum, 2020). She has also published on Canadian Immigration Framing Discourse with Journal of International Migration and Oil Sands Media Framing with Journal of Canadian Studies. She repeatedly received the Golden Course Annual Award for excellence in teaching for her courses. Before joining the academia, she was spokesperson and Head of the Public Affairs at the Canadian Embassy in Prague and had multiple professional experiences from the NGO sector.
